Partner Prenatal Yoga:
for Labor & Birth

Partner Prenatal Yoga - Elise Bowerman Yoga - Partner_Squat-Pull

"We have a secret in our culture, it's not that birth is painful, it's that women are strong."
~ Laura Stavoe Harm, click here about this quote

This private, fundamental workshop will prepare mom and her birth partner for labor and delivery. Encouragement for a natural childbirth (while honoring however baby may arrive) will be supported with the teachings of yoga, along with tried-and-true techniques like massage. Attend this workshop at your earliest availability in order to implement the teachings as an "at-home practice" prior to labor and delivery.

This is a great "refresher" course for those who've given birth before, too!

No prior yoga experience is necessary.
You must be currently or formerly enrolled in Prenatal Yoga classes to register.

Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to three couples.
Workshop is offered three or four times per year.

Side note: We have a 10 year old dog, named Maya. She's super gentle and loving. She has access to the whole house and loves to join us in the yoga room during circle time. (She sheds like no other, so you may be taking some white hair home with you! We do have a roller to minimize the amount of hair you leave with.) If you have an aversion to dogs or allergies please consider another program... however, I've had students afraid of dogs and fall in love with Maya building their confidence and trust in dogs. Pretty amazing to watch!

Prepare for Partner Prenatal Yoga

Partner Prenatal Yoga - Elise Bowerman Yoga - Partner_LeanArrive 15 minutes early to set up and use the restroom.

Each person needs their own mat. I have props: bolsters, blankets, blocks, straps and extra mats. (For hygienic purposes you are encouraged to bring your own mat.)

Wear comfortable, breathable clothing, suitable for moving around. Layers work well in the cooler months. The room is about 70 degrees; however, there are many windows making it cooler in the winter months.

Water bottle(s); small snack for mom, if needed.

A notepad and pen, if desired.

Do not wear any scents (i.e. lotions, perfumes or colognes.)

Typically yoga is practiced on an empty belly (refraining from meals 2-3 hours before practice.) That is not the case in Prenatal Yoga. You are creating a little human, please eat. Perhaps not a chili cheese dog right before class, but eat lighter foods like fruit, vegetables, crackers, small sandwich, etc. You want energy for the workshop... and it's a great way to prepare for labor. It can be helpful to eat before and during labor to keep your energy and strength going.

There will be a table set up with NYR Organic mom and baby products. Sample, enjoy and maybe even place an order to begin taking care of momma and baby free of toxins!

Often couples go out to eat for a nice meal after this workshop as an extension of a "date day or night." Enjoy the delicious restaurants in the Bloomfield Hills / Birmingham area!
