Gel Manicure Dangers

Gel manicures are hot right now, but what makes them so great? Not much outside of non-chipping, lasting about three weeks, and having the perfect finish. The possible dangerous side-effects are enough for me to not risk getting a gel manicure.

Dr. Oz had an informative talk with a dermatologist on his show (Are Gel Manicures Safe?, January 2013) on the hazards of repeated gel manicures: scrapping/thining of the nail, likelyhood of infections, and the use of the UV light which may aid in skin cancer.

ExamHealth.com posted an article the day after Dr. Oz's show aired writing out the risks women are giving themselves when receiving gel manicures.
